Question 1

What does the organization do with the donations that the Association for Spiritual Integrity receives?

Accepted Answer

Because our membership is free, we rely solely on donations to keep ASI running.  All donations received are allocated to meet the running costs of the organization and to maintain a quality online presence.  We pay for software subscriptions, the website and effective accounting systems. We have allocated funds for part-time Executive Assistant help and all other personnel are volunteers.  Occasionally we hire an outside professional advisor when need arises. When the ASI is represented at a conference, the travel expenses are largely borne by the individual volunteer representing the ASI. If we have funds, we offer some contribution towards expense reimbursement. 
We offer an honorarium of $100 to each webinar presenter who is external to the organization. 
We have specific projects that require funding in order to do them well. We have a small volunteer fundraising team who are actively pursuing grant aid from philanthropic trusts and foundations and although we have not received these types of funds yet, we will continue our efforts to source external funding. Is the Association for Spiritual Integrity a tax-exempt charity?

Yes, the Association for Spiritual Integrity(ASI) is a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt charity.  The mailing address is 1942 Broadway STE 314C, Boulder, Colorado 80302-5233, USA and the EIN is 83-1494884.  When you donate through Paypal Giving Fund (https://www.paypal.com/US/fundraiser/charity/3705584)or Zeffy,(https://www.zeffy.com/en-US/donation-form/86c89d9a-0f47-468b-8ede-067bfc1ffc3c)  no fees are taken out of your donation and you will automatically receive a tax receipt emailed to you.

Question 3

Will the ASI publish a list of referred spiritual teachers, guides, psychotherapists, or counselors, etc. for students?

We don’t recommend individual practitioners other than a small number of mediators (https://www.spiritual-integrity.org/mediation-referrals)who are skilled in mediating between teachers and students, if conflict arises.

However, here are some tips that might help you select with whom to work. All our members (spiritual teachers and leaders) agree to be accountable for their words and actions and are willing to receive feedback from their students/clients. It is wise to ask any spiritual teacher/leader/therapist if they abide by a code of ethics and if they have a system of feedback and/or a grievance process in place.  After you review their code of ethics and processes, ask yourself if these protocols are respectful, honest and transparent and make your decision from there.

How do I find an ASI member to work with on my spiritual path?

We offer a Spiritual Leaders Directory (https://www.spiritual-integrity.org/spiritual-leader-member-directory)of individuals and an Organizations Directory (https://www.spiritual-integrity.org/organization-member-directory)of organizations that have agreed to the ASI Honor Code of Ethics and Good Practice.(https://www.spiritual-integrity.org/honor-code)  If you are drawn to a particular teacher that you found online, you can search their name in the Spiritual Leaders Directory.(https://www.spiritual-integrity.org/spiritual-leader-member-directory) If they are already a member, you can know that this teacher is open to feedback and agrees to abide by a code of ethics. If you don’t see the teacher that you want to work with in our directory, ask them what their system of feedback and/or grievance process is and if they abide by a code of ethics.  If they don’t have a code of ethics, you can refer them to the ASI website (https://www.spiritual-integrity.org/)(https://www.spiritual-integrity.org/) where they can become a member (https://www.spiritual-integrity.org/join-asi)and utilize the ASI Code of Ethics for Spiritual Leaders.(https://www.spiritual-integrity.org/honor-code-for-spiritual-leaders) If a teacher is of the opinion that they don’t need a code of ethics or that ethics are too dualistic for them, you may want to choose a different teacher.

What type of support does ASI offer students?

ASI offers Student Guidelines (https://www.spiritual-integrity.org/student-guidelines)to empower students who are on a spiritual path.  It is helpful if students are familiar with ASI’s Honor Code of Ethics for Spiritual Leaders.(https://www.spiritual-integrity.org/honor-code-for-spiritual-leaders) Always ask your teacher(s) if they have a code of ethics that informs the professionalism of their work. We plan to offer a course in the future that addresses “How to Find a Spiritual Teacher” specifically for students. In the interim, anyone can subscribe to our newsletter (at the bottom of this page) to stay informed about upcoming events, courses and free webinars. Our educational webinar events (https://www.spiritual-integrity.org/events)are informative and everyone is welcome to join, students and teachers alike.

How can I support ASI and get more involved?

If you are a spiritual leader, teacher or guide, you can support the ASI by becoming a member.(https://www.spiritual-integrity.org/join-asi)  Membership is free, but we do encourage a $50 donation, if possible, to cover operating costs.
